Royal Ubud Great Cremation Ceremony
Attention travellers! A grand event is going to take place in Ubud, Bali. The Royal Familiy of Ubud will be conducting a grand cremation ceremony known as pelebon in 15th July. This event will be a spectacular show in Bali for travellers coming in Indonesia. This event will feature the great culture of the Balinese, and you will witness this spectacular culture show which were last held 29 years ago.
The Departement of Cultural and Tourism had worked together with the Ubud Royal Family to welcome tourists and travellers alike both from local and International.
In this grand ceremonial the body of the deceased will be carried in a Bade, a huge transporter for the deceased from bamboo, paper mace, and cotton. The Bade’s purpose is to transport the deceased body to the cremation site, from Puri Ubud to Puri Dalem. The bade doesn’t have wheels, it need a lots of people to carry this grand object that could reach 25 meters tall and weighs to 10 tonnes. The Bade will be built by everyone near the site in a process called raya, everyone near the surroundings will be involved in creating this Bade.
The cremation process will involve three bodies of the royal family and 70 commoners. If you were lucky enough to have witness this kind of ceremony conducted by other royal family in Bali, then you will surely understand that this ceremony is one thing that shouldn’t be missed.
